Nottingham Forest are closing in on Morgan Gibbs-White as Wolverhampton Wanderers seemingly edge towards selling the playmaker.

Forest secured a huge signing on Saturday morning as Mainz striker Taiwo Awoniyi completed his move to the City Ground.

Steve Cooper now needs more signings to take Forest forward and it looks like Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson will arrive too.

A host of names are being linked with Forest and whilst some rumours are wide of the mark, a deal for Gibbs-White seems more likely.

The Sun report that Forest are closing in on Gibbs-White after his strong loan spell at Sheffield United.

It’s suggested that Forest are willing to pay £20million for Gibbs-White and Wolves may ‘reluctantly accept’.

Wolves need to sell a few players this summer to raise funds and bringing in cash for Gibbs-White may make some sense.

Gibbs-White, 22, has come up through the Wolves ranks but has only played 20 Premier League games since the end of 2018-19 season.

A loan to Sheffield United certainly worked well for Gibbs-White though as he racked up 12 goals and 10 assists in 37 league outings.

Gibbs-White’s last kick of a ball for the Blades was a great one for Forest; his decisive penalty was in the play-off semi-final shootout was saved by Brice Samba.

A versatile attacking midfield player who can play as a 10, in off the flanks or even as a striker, Gibbs-White would be a fine addition to support Awoniyi.

Cooper worked with Gibbs-White in the England youth setup and even in a loan spell at Swansea City, which was cut short by injury.

Cooper’s interest in Gibbs-White is no surprise, and Forest seem to have real hope that Wolves will soon cash in.
