Aston Villa do not currently plan on sending Tim Iroegbunam out on loan next season amid interest from the Championship, with Boubacar Kamara set to mentor the teen midfielder.

That’s according to Birmingham Live, who note Steven Gerrard intends on keeping the 18-year-old at Villa Park this summer. He wants to see the youngster learn and develop first-hand from Kamara, following the Frenchman’s free transfer from Marseille sealed in May.

Kamara emerged as one of Ligue 1’s premier ball-winners at the Stade Velodrome after his senior breakthrough in 2017. The 22-year-old displayed a high technical ability from within Les Phoceens’ engine room after moving up from a central defensive berth at an early age.

Iroegbunam is still making the step up from youth to senior level football after three first-team appearances last season. The Birmingham-born prospect enjoyed his breakthrough outing in February, and later registered his maiden start at home to Norwich City in April.

Numerous Championship sides are be interested in taking Iroegbunam on loan from Aston Villa this summer, per the Express & Star. They face waiting until deep into the market for a chance to sign the West Brom product, as Gerrard will afford him chances in pre-season.

Iroegbunam will not return to Birmingham until later in the off-season schedule, as well, as he is currently with the Young Lions. The midfielder has built on his breakthrough in March with starting roles in Euro U19 Championship group stage ties against Austria and Serbia.
