According to FootMercato, Leeds United are interested in PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo as a potential replacement for Raphinha.

Leeds seem set to lose their Brazilian talisman in this summer transfer window, and they’re now making contingency plans in case the winger does depart.

Hakim Ziyech is one reported target, and now, Gakpo has come into the mix.

Gakpo has been a revelation in the Netherlands this season. He scored 19 goals and assisted a further 14, while his exploits earned him the Eredivisie Player of the Year award.

The winger beat out some stern opposition for this award including Manchester United target Jurrien Timber and new Borussia Dortmund signing Sebastien Haller.

Gakpo’s PSV didn’t win the league, but he was good value for this award as he grabbed 12 goals and 13 assists in just 22 domestic league starts.

Unfortunately for Leeds, they’re not the only club in for Gakpo. Arsenal are also keen, and according to this report, the Gunners could move for the winger if their own pursuit for Raphinha is unsuccessful.

Arsenal have already had one bid rejected for Raphinha, but Leeds may want to consider selling the attacker to the Gunners in order to clear the path for Gakpo.

Whether or not the Dutch international ends up at Elland Road remains to be seen, but there’s a very good chance that the 23-year-old will be in the Premier League next season, be that at Leeds, Arsenal or any other club.
