Chet Holmgren’s dad went viral with camcorder

Last season, the No.1 seed Gonzaga beat No.4 seed San Francisco Dons 81-71. It meant the Zags headed back to the West Coast Conference tournament title game for the 25th straight year.

However, one of the viral moments from the game came when Chet Holmgren’s dad Dave Holmgren was spotted filming the game with an old-school recorder. The image was posted to social media and Chet even responded with a series of crying laughter emojis.

Chet Holmgren’s parents including Dave Holmgren

Chet Holmgren’s dad’s name is Dave Holmgren, who played played 57 games of college basketball for Minnesota between 1984-1988.

Much like his son, Dave Holmgren is listed 7 ft, so it’s pretty clear where Chet gets his size from! Per Bleacher Report, bad knees limited Dave’s career minutes, but he passed on his passion for basketball down to Chet.

When Chet was younger, Dave taught Chet the fundamentals of being a big man, like how to box out for a rebound and how to avoid fouling with your body when blocking shots.

Unfortunately that’s all we really know about Chet Holmgren’s parents, as his mother as kept out of the spotlight.

Having Chet is a “great advantage”

Last season, Gonzaga coach Mark Few said, “having Chet back there is such a great advantage to have.”

He is one of the top prospects heading into the NBA Draft along with the likes of Paolo Banchero and Purdue’s Jaden Ivey. However, his skinnier frame has led to reservations about his NBA potential.

Chet Holmgren’s wingspan is 7ft 6in (228.5cm), while his height is 7ft 1in. Holmgren’s weight, however, is only 195lb (88.5kg). As reported by The Ringer (via NBA Advanced Stats) Aleksej Pokusevski is the only other player listed in NBA history to stand at least 7ft but weigh less than 200lbs.
