Michael Edwards has left Liverpool and he may soon have a big decision to make with Manchester United keen on landing him.
Jurgen Klopp has been the face of this outstanding Liverpool project since 2015 and rightly deserves so much praise.
Yet the mastermind behind Liverpool’s comings and goings has been Edwards.
The 43-year-old started early, working as an analyst at Portsmouth back in 2003 before moving on to Tottenham in 2009.
Two years later, Edwards made his big move to Liverpool and has been a vital cog in their machine for over 10 years.
Michael Edwards has left Liverpool
As they often say though, all good things must come to an end and Edwards announced his departure from Liverpool earlier this year.
Edwards departs having become a Liverpool hero.
Pretty much all of this Liverpool squad have been signed on his watch; Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Fabinho, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota… the list goes on and on.
Edwards has also been exceptional at selling players, raking in big fees for the likes of Dominic Solanke, Jordon Ibe, Rhian Brewster, Christian Benteke, Mamadou Sakho and Danny Ings for considerable fees.
Liverpool have promoted Julian Ward as Edwards’ replacement all whilst many have wondered just what comes next for Edwards.
The Daily Mail now claim that Manchester United and Chelsea are both showing an interest in landing Edwards.
United desperately need somebody to mastermind their transfer business after wasting millions upon millions in recent years.
United will be looking at Liverpool in sheer envy after nailing most of their signings, so why not go for the man behind it all in Edwards?
The big question is whether Edwards would risk throwing away his Liverpool reputation by joining their bitter rivals United.
That’s a tough call for Edwards, who will be in demand across Europe and may soon have the chance to make a controversial move.
