Michael Edwards is set to leave Liverpool this summer, and according to reports, Manchester United are now interested in appointing the Reds’ sporting director.
Reports suggest that Liverpool’s rivals United are interested in appointing Edwards, who has been influential in the Reds’ incredible rise over the past decade with his signings playing a massive role in Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League successes.
From signings such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker to getting some incredible value from the sales of Dominic Solanke and Phillipe Coutinho, Edwards is arguably the best transfer guru currently working in England, and it makes a lot of sense why United are interested in his services.
Indeed, United have a massive job on their hands this summer with Erik Ten Hag, yet the Manchester giants are far from the only side interested in Edwards, nor are they the only team who could do with the former Liverpool man’s incredible qualities, as here are five clubs who should target the sporting director.
Chelsea

As well as Manchester United, Chelsea are also reportedly interested in Edwards this summer, with Blues transfer mastermind Marina Granovskaia to leave the club following Todd Boehly’s takeover of the west London side, and the American could make a statement by appointing the Liverpool sporting director.
Edwards is one of the best in the business, and whilst Granovskaia excelled at negotiations with other clubs to get the best deals, the English official has the talent index to identify players who could take Chelsea to the next level, with the Blues arguably the Premier League side who have wasted the most money on bad signings over the years.
Everton
Everton’s 21/22 season was turbulent, to say the least, with Marcel Brands quitting his position as sporting director of the Toffees in one of the biggest of many bombshells experience by the Merseyside club, and Edwards could be perfect to replace the Dutchman.

Indeed, crossing the divide would be seen as a treacherous move by Liverpool supporters, but given what Everton need, Edwards himself could be open to moving and to the rebuild project with Frank Lampard, who can do with all the help he can get this summer.
LOSC Lille
Away from the Premier League is likely where Edwards will end up this summer, and LOSC Lille could be a perfect club for the former Liverpool employee, who was branded as a ‘genius’ following his work at the English giants.
Ligue 1 winners in 2021, Lille owe much of their success in recent years to Luis Campos, another top sporting director who this summer has joined PSG, and for Edwards, the French side could be an interesting challenge in a division that will push the transfer guru to his absolute limits.
Manchester United
There’s no beating around the bush here, Manchester United are a mess of a football club and their interest in Edwards makes sense given the sporting director’s incredible record at Liverpool over the years, with the Reds now miles ahead of their English rivals.
Ten Hag is yet to make a signing this window, and even though Edwards might not join this summer, the transfer expert would be a phenomenal appointment for United if they can follow through on their interest in the sporting director in the coming weeks.
RB Leipzig
Another club that has been linked with Edwards, though not for some time, is RB Leipzig, with the Bundesliga side reportedly keen on the Liverpool man shortly after it was announced that the sporting director was leaving Anfield this summer.
Indeed, Leipzig are one of the best-run football clubs in Europe, and the entire Red Bull operation could be one that entices Edwards to join the east German side this summer if they can sell the project to the former Liverpool man.
