Vijay’s 66th career movie has just started its PR campaign, but what do fans need to know about the boss’s return in the Varisu movie?
The Indian cinema industry has experienced an incredible 2022 so far, with the likes of RRR, KGF Chapter 2 and Vikram becoming instant classics.
However, for one of the industry’s biggest stars, Vijay, it’s been somewhat of a mixed year so far, with Beast arriving to poor reviews but still earning a post-production profit of around Rs 100 Crore.
Now, the icon of modern Indian cinema is turning his attention toward the future and his 66th feature film, Varisu.
Varisu is the upcoming Tamil-language movie from Sri Venkateswara and with the second look poster going viral online, here is everything you need to know about the new film.
Varisu started production in April 2022
Details on the movie’s plot remain fairly scarce, but The Times of India reported in January 2022 that Vijay would be “sporting two looks” as the film would be set in two different time periods.
The movie went into production earlier this year, with principal photography beginning in April 2022 in Chennai. Interestingly, the filmmakers had originally requested that filming solely took place in Chennai as to benefit the local FEFSI members.
However, production would then move to Hyderabad, where reportedly 75% of the shoot was originally planned, on May 3rd concluding its first schedule on May 23rd.
Varisu is directed by Vamshi Paidipally (2019’s Maharshi and 2016’s Oopiri), who is also writing the scripts alongside Hari, Ahishor Solomon and Vivek.
When is Varisu set to release in theatres?
Varisu is currently scheduled to premiere in theatres across India in January 2023 in accordance with the start of the Pongal Harvest Festival, which is set for January 15th – 18th.
There had been early reports that the movie would be filmed in both Tamil and Telugu, but the filmmakers would later clarify that Varisu would be a Tamil-only production.
The good news is that Varisu will be released alongside a Telugu-dubbed version, under the title “Vaarasudu” with PVP Cinema. Janbhara Times is also reporting that a Hindi-dubbing will be available to audiences upon the film’s premiere, but this has yet to be officially confirmed.
Who has been cast in the Varisu movie?
At the time of writing, the main cast has been revealed for Varisu; however, their respective character names currently remain a tightly-kept secret.
