Jack Wilshere has told TalkSPORT Edge that it would be “unbelievable” if Arsenal managed to secure a deal for Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling this summer. Wilshere believes his London roots could tempt him home.

Sterling, 27, enjoyed another superb season in which he helped City win the Premier League – having a hand in 26 goals along the way. Scoring 17, he laid on nine assists – despite only starting 32 of his 47 appearances.

Reports this month state that both Chelsea and Tottenham want England mainstay Sterling, with City open to his sale for a fee of £52million. He is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at The Etihad.

Arsenal icon Wilshere says he would Sterling – who grew up in London after being born in Jamaica – to return to the Capital this summer. He says it would be “unbelievable” if Arsenal pulled off a deal for Sterling.

“Raheem would be unbelievable as well,” Wilshere said. “I know he’s a London boy so it would be nice for him to come home and join the biggest team in London. Again, someone who has been in the Premier League for years.

“He knows the league. Under Mikel’s guidance I think he would be another very good signing. I’ll give him a 10/10,” Wilshere continued on TalkSPORT Edge, rating Sterling and a possible move to North London.

What a signing Sterling would be for Arsenal. The Gunners have just seen a bid rejected for Raphinha with Leeds wanting in the region of £60million. Sterling would be slightly cheaper, at £52million.

But the Englishman would be much higher in terms of wages. Which should Arsenal prefer? Either way, both would be incredible signings. They might get more of a proven end product from Sterling, but on a much-higher wage.

Whether Arsenal go big on either, both would be top signings. Champions League football might be a factor though, with Chelsea and Tottenham also both interested in Raphinha – as well as Sterling.
