Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 5 recap

Episode 5 of Obi-Wan Kenobi landed on Disney+ on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022.

The episode begins following the events of the previous chapter, with the Empire in hot pursuit of Obi-Wan Kenobi after Reva placed a tracker in Leia’s droid, Lola.

After arriving at Jabiim, Vader’s forces, led by Reva – who has been newly promoted to Grand Inquisitor – lay siege to the Path’s base, hoping to draw out Kenobi.

Stalling for time, Obi-Wan converses with Reva and deduces that she must have been a youngling during Order 66 to know Vader’s real identity and he works out that she is actually planning to take revenge against the Sith Lord rather than serve him.

The attack on the base eventually begins and several Path fighters are killed, including Tala, until Obi-Wan agrees to surrender in order to stop the fighting and bring out Vader, telling Reva that he is giving her a chance to kill him.

While Obi-Wan and the Path survivors escape, Reva’s plan backfires when her attack is easily countered by Vader and he stabs her, leaving her wounded. At this moment, the original Grand Inquisitor emerges and he mocks Reva for her failed efforts.

However, before the credits roll, an injured Reva finds Obi-Wan’s communicator and sees a message from Bail Organa hinting that Owen Lars is hiding someone of great importance on Tatooine.

Season 2 chances explored

Ahead of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s release, the series was billed as a limited mini-series, meaning its story would be told over just one season.

That made the possibility of a second season look highly unlikely.

However, following the positive reception to the series, both from fans and from the show’s cast and crew, there is a slight glimmer of hope.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor said: “It was made as a one-off limited series. And in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between III and IV and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan in A New Hope.”

But the actor also teased: “Would I like to make another one? Yeah, I would like to make another one.”

In an interview with ET Canada, Hayden Christensen said about the prospect of returning as Darth Vader: “Yeah, I mean, you know, absolutely. I think this is a character that sort of resonates in our culture and in a very kind of profound way.”

“And there’s certainly more there to explore,” he added. “I would love to get to continue my journey with him.”

The message of a potential return for Obi-Wan was even echoed by Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, who told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s certainly something we talk about.”

“Mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time,” she continued. “Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end.”
