Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte is open to selling Emerson Royal in the summer transfer window, according to The Times.
The Times have reported that former La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Emerson from Premier League side Tottenham this summer.
Tottenham boss Conte wants to sign a wing-back who is ‘more comfortable going forward’ than Emerson, which is why the North London club are willing to sell the Brazil international they paid £22 million for, according to the report.
Tottenham should give Emerson Royal another season
In our view, Tottenham Hotspur should give Emerson Royal another season.
After all, Emerson is just 23 and moved to Tottenham from Barcelona only in the summer of 2021.
The Brazil international is a right-back by trade, but he has been deployed as a right wing-back by Conte at Tottenham.
It is not easy for a player in his early 20s to learn a new role in the space of a few months.
If Emerson gets a full pre-season with Conte, then the former Barcelona player could well become the player the Tottenham head coach wants him to be.
Emerson made 26 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham last season.
The Tottenham no. 13 scored one goal and gave one assist in those games.
