Calvin Ramsay has admitted to the official Liverpool website that it will be “tough” to reach the level of “unreal” Trent Alexander-Arnold. Ramsay’s move was announced on Sunday, joining from Scottish side Aberdeen.
Ramsay, 18, has come in from the Dons after a wonderful breakthrough season – playing 33 of his 39 senior appearances. In that time, he had a hand in 10 goals, scoring once and laying on nine assists.
It has convinced Liverpool to land the Scotland Under-21 international – a move that has delighted plenty, including Kenny Dalglish. He has penned a long-term contract at Anfield, as back-up to Alexander-Arnold.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Ramsay discussed Alexander-Arnold and working under the defender. He says the England international is an “unreal” player but admits it will be tough to reach his level.

“He’s a massive player, he’s been brilliant so far. I watched him the whole of last season and just the way he plays, I think it’s almost similar to me [in] the way he attacks and stuff like that, we’re both still young.
“He’s an unreal player. So to be coming in here and learning off him, it’s just going to be amazing for me and I’m going to learn a lot. It’s going to be tough, it’s going to be a challenge but it’s one that I’m up for.”
Ramsay: It will be tough to reach level of Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold
Ramsay will get game time, but the chances are it is going to be in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Jurgen Klopp might be patient with the Scot, like he was with Konstantinos Tsimikas – who only played seven times in his first season.
But there is enormous potential in Ramsay. It does mean that Neco Williams is likely to depart with Fulham among the clubs looking to sign him permanently. Can he be as good as Alexander-Arnold? It is a huge leap.
