After Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick won his first major, we take a look at how much winning caddie Billy Foster made at the US Open.
Matt Fitzpatrick has won the 2022 US Open at Brookline, the first major of his career. The Yorkshireman beat off competition during the final round from world number one Scottie Scheffler and American Will Zalatoris, posting a two-under 68 for a six-under total.
He joins Jack Nicklaus as the only player to win the US Amateur and the US Open on the same course and is the first non-American to win both titles.
“It’s what you grow up dreaming of,” said Fitzpatrick. “It’s something I’ve worked so hard for such a long time. I’ve got to give myself credit: I had so much patience.”

Who is Billy Foster?
Billy Foster previously caddied for Lee Westwood but split with him in 2018 after 10 years of working together. He has previously worked with Seve Ballasteros, Sergio Garcia, Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke and even Tiger Woods.
However, it was after his split with Westwood that Foster took up the bag for Fitzpatrick and the two have worked together ever since.
Since working together, the duo have had huge success, winning the 2020 DP World Tour Championship and 2021 Andalucía Masters before the 2022 US Open.
Foster has had some close calls with major success in his years, particularly Lee Westwood’s narrow loss at the 2009 Open Championship at Turnberry.
“I’ve probably had six or seven really close calls, a couple heartbreaking losses,” Foster said (via Golf Digest). “It was tough to stomach sometimes.”

He admits it’s a huge relief to finally win a major
However, he can now add a major championship to his resume and he admits that it feels like a massive relief.
“Just pure, utter relief,” Foster said. “I have the monkey off my back, but it feels more like a gorilla.”
“It means the world to Billy,” Fitzpatrick added. “I can’t tell you how much it means to Billy. It’s unbelievable. I know it’s something he’s wanted for a long, long, long time. To do it today is incredible.”
Speaking on how he’d celebrate Fitzpatrick’s victory he said: “I’ll start with a beer in the caddie shack. Followed by another 20.”
