According to The Guardian, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Taiwo Awoniyi, a player Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool sold in the summer of 2021.

As reported by Goal in July 2021, Liverpool sold Awoniyi to Union Berlin for £6.5 million.

The 24-year-old struggled to make a breakthrough in the Liverpool first team, and was sent out on loan to clubs such as NEC, Mainz and Union Berlin during his time at Anfield.

The Nigeria international striker flourished in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 15 goals and providing one assist in 29 league starts for Union Berlin.

Awoniyi also scored two goals in six Conference League matches for the German club.

The Guardian are now reporting that Forest are interested in signing Awoniyi in the summer transfer window.

The striker has a release clause of €20m (£17.2m) in his contract at Union Berlin, according to the report.

Liverpool will reportedly get 10% of any fee paid for the 24-year-old.

The Guardian have reported that there are other teams in England who are interested in signing Awoniyi.

Forest will play in the Premier League next season after winning promotion from the Championship.

It will be interesting to see if Awoniyi does make the move to the City Ground.

Having failed to make an impact at Liverpool, the striker will surely be looking to prove the Reds wrong and show them what he is capable of.
