‘Definitive transfer’: FC Porto say £30m player is moving to Arsenal

FC Porto have announced that Fabio Vieira is joining Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal for a total transfer fee of €40 million (£34.25 million).

Porto have said in a statement that Arsenal will pay them an initial transfer fee of €35 million (£29.97m) for Vieira, and that the rest €5 million (£4.28m) will be dependent on what the 22-year-old midfielder will achieve with the Gunners.

Goal have reported that the Portuguese youngster is in London to undergo a medical.

Vieira will sign a five-year contract with Arsenal, who hope to announce the signing over the weekend or early next week, according to the report.

The 22-year-old will reportedly earn £26,000 per week as salary at the North London club.

The Portuguese giants said: “Football Clube do Porto – Futebol, SAD, under the terms of article 248º nº1 of the Securities Code, hereby informs the market that it has reached an agreement with Arsenal FC for the definitive transfer of the registration rights of professional football player Fábio Vieira for the amount of €40M (forty million euros), of which €5M (five million euros) are dependent on the achievement of sporting goals.

“It is further informed that the final agreement is still being finalized and is expected to be implemented in the coming days.”

Vieira is a very good and promising young Portuguese player who will make Arsenal a better and more creative team.

The 22-year-old made 15 starts and 12 substitute appearances in the Portuguese league for FC Porto last season.

The attacking midfielder scored six goals and gave 14 assists in those games.

The 22-year-old also made two starts and one substitute appearance in the Europa League, two substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League, and three appearances in Taça de Portugal last season.
