West Ham want Alphonse Areola but they fear that Newcastle United will swoop in and beat them to the goalkeeper’s signature this summer.
The Hammers are hoping to get deals over the line this summer after missing out on the Premier League top six at the end of last season.
Add in the Europa League semi-final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham do need to invest and kick on again.
There will be big targets for West Ham this summer but there could also be a fairly cheap deal for goalkeeper Areola too.
West Ham want Alphonse Areola
Areola spent last season on loan at West Ham having spent the 2020-21 season on loan London rivals Fulham.
The Paris Saint-Germain stopper mostly served as backup to Lukasz Fabianski but featured prominently in Europa League and cup games.
Areola’s loan stay is over but West Ham do have an option to make the deal permanent for around £7.7million according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano suggested that the deal was close but more than two weeks on there has still been nothing confirmed.
RMC Sport reported earlier this week that Newcastle United have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal for Areola.

West Ham remain in the box seat with that permanent option but Newcastle are offering an alternative option.
The Guardian now claim that West Ham really fear that Newcastle’s interest in Areola could now mean they miss out on the Frenchman.
That report adds that the permanent deal is actually worth £11million.
This is far from ideal for West Ham who also fear that Newcastle will hijack their deal for Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd.
The Moroccan international is being lined up for a £30million move to West Ham but Newcastle could now swoop in for him as well as Areola in a double hijacking this summer.
