Alasdair Gold says Tottenham are showing an interest in Blackburn Rovers and Chile striker Ben Brereton-Diaz – but could face competition from Leeds and West Ham. A fee between £13million and £15million would be likely.
It has been a whirlwind 12 months for Brereton-Diaz. The 23-year-old switched allegiance to his Mother’s native Chile last summer and has since scored four goals in 14 caps, becoming a national treasure for his international form.
At club level, his form has gone through the roof. Beforehand at Blackburn, he had scored nine goals in 88 outings. But during 21-22, he netted 22 in 37 league games. A wonderful record that saw Blackburn almost qualify for the play-offs.

But Blackburn remain in the Championship and Brereton-Diaz is out of contract next summer. Gold says Tottenham have shown interest and Brereton-Diaz would be tempted – but face competition from both Leeds and West Ham.
“Spurs have a little bit of interest in Blackburn’s Ben Brereton-Diaz. From what I understand, I don’t think there’s been any contact in the last few months. I wonder if that gets resurrected this summer,” Gold said.
“Last year of his contract, he is home grown. Leeds, West Ham, few La Liga clubs looking at him. We’re talking between £13million and £15million for him. He would probably be okay with being back-up.”

It is a surprise that Brereton-Diaz is still on the market, with reports earlier this summer suggesting Sevilla had edged all other interested parties aside. But if he is to remain in England – Spurs, West Ham or Leeds?
A move to Spurs would see him in the Champions League. It would see him fighting at the right end of the Premier League, but as cover for Harry Kane. A move to Leeds would see him fighting to start for a side who finished 17th.
But a compromise can be found in West Ham. He has the quality to eventually overtake Michail Antonio, who is now 32. They remain in Europe, albeit the Conference League, and will be fighting for the top six next term.
