Foot Mercato claim Ligue 1 side Brest are now ‘well-placed’ to sign Karamoko Dembele after his Celtic contract expired at the end of May. No confirmation has been given, from player or club, as to whether is going or staying.
Dembele, 19, was supposedly the jewel in the crown of Celtic’s up-and-coming talents during the Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon era. But he has failed to live up to the hype. At 19, he has played just 10 senior matches.

His contract has expired. Once described a “very, very special talent” by Lennon, Dembele now looks set to leave the club on a free transfer. There is plenty of interest in the London-born star’s services, now from France.
Foot Mercato say Brest, who finished in a comfortable 11th place in Ligue 1 last season, are keen on signing him. They are ‘well-placed’ to strike a move. But they are unlikely to be the only club interested in Dembele.
Brest ‘well-placed’ to sign Dembele after Celtic contract expired
It is an intriguing story for Dembele. Back in 2016, as a 13-year-old, Dembele made his debut for Celtic’s Under-20 side – underlining the talent the pocket-sized attacker possesses. But he has failed to kick on.
His Celtic contract is now up. Ange Postecoglou has made many signings, but he has also given youth a chance. But Dembele has been continually overlooked – managing just two substitute outings in 2021-22.
It is clear that Dembele needs to join a new club and start somewhere fresh. Would a move to a side like Brest be wise? Surely, Dembele needs a team where is going to get regular game time. It might be a bit soon in Ligue 1.
