The Times claim Villarreal are readying a £16million initial bid to sign Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso – with £5million included in add-ons. However, Spurs want more for the Copa America winner.
Lo Celso, 26, joined Villarreal on loan in January from Spurs after little over 200 minutes of Premier League football in the first half of 2021-22. He starred for Unai Emery’s side, helping them reach the Champions League semi-final.

He has a contract at Spurs until the summer of 2025 – meaning the ball is well and truly in Tottenham’s court. Reports claim that Spurs are ready to pay £25million to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton.
In the same report, it is claimed that Villarreal want to pay £16million up front for Lo Celso and £5million in add-ons. However, Spurs want more cash for the left-footed midfielder. A compromise will surely be found.
Villarreal readying bid to sign Tottenham midfielder Lo Celso
Given that Spurs paid £27million to sign Lo Celso in 2020, they are likely to be expecting a loss. It simply has not worked for the versatile midfielder in North London – but it certainly has at Villarreal.
Villarreal are willing to pay £21million in total. But the add-ons might not be particularly achievable. Realistically, Spurs should be requesting between £20million and £25million up front – instead of just £16million.
But as the clock ticks on the summer window, Spurs may have to accept a low-ball offer for the Argentina midfielder. He simply has not future at Spurs and keeping him this summer would see his value deteriorate even further.
