The Athletic report that Tottenham want to sign both Everton attacker Richarlison or his Brazil teammate Raphinha from Leeds United. However, Fabio Paratici will only sanction a move for one of the two stars.

Richarlison, still only 25, enjoyed an excellent season on a personal level for Everton – having a hand in 16 goals in 33 games for the Toffees. But it was a poor season for Everton and Richarlison is now keen to wave goodbye.

Reports from Italy claim that Tottenham are at an ‘advanced’ stage in talks, and are ‘set’ to beat Milan and Juventus to the signing of Richarlison. But he is not the only target for Tottenham, with Leeds ace Raphinha also a target.

The report from The Athletic says Spurs have joined Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to land the ex-Rennes and Sporting Lisbon talent. But there is a catch – only one of Raphinha or Richarlison will join Spurs, if either do.

“Tottenham are also interested in Everton’s Richarlison, however, and it is understood Antonio Conte’s side will not sign both Brazilians this summer,” The Athletic’s report says, on Tottenham’s interest in Raphinha and Richarlison.

Tottenham want to sign Raphinha or Richarlison

It makes sense. There is no point spending more than £100million on both players. Tottenham already have Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min. Lucas Moura could stay, if Steven Bergwijn leaves – which is likely.

So, there is no need to go and spend big on both players. Bring one of them in, and spend elsewhere. Which one would be the better signing? Well, Richarlison can play as a striker and Spurs need one.

Raphinha is more of a right-winger, who can do a job on the left. But Richarlison’s versatility allows him to play on either flank and up top. It makes sense for Tottenham to go for Richarlison over Raphinha.
