Tottenham Hotspur are landing Simon Davies as they bring in the former Manchester City coach as a leader in their academy setup.

Tottenham fans are hoping for more signings being announced soon after the arrivals of Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic.

Yet Fabio Paratici is also trying to bring in key additions off the pitch to help Tottenham move forward.

Rangers’ Andy Scoulding is on his way in and two more additions are being made as Tottenham revolutionise off the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur are landing Simon Davies

The Athletic report that not only is Gretar Steinsson coming on board as Tottenham’s new performance director, but Simon Davies is being added too.

No, not the former Tottenham winger Simon Davies, but rather the former Manchester City coach.

It’s stated that Davies will be taking a ‘senior post’ in the Tottenham academy and a deal is now very close.

The job title would ‘head of methodology’ which may sound somewhat strange, but his main focus will be supporting academy coaches Dean Rastrick and Chris Powell.

Davies, 48, was in the Manchester United ranks as a player but spent most of his career in the lower leagues or in Wales.

Davies did have a brief spell as Chester City boss in 2008 but really kicked on with a move to Manchester City.

After a spell as Under-21 boss, Davies became head coach of City’s Elite Development Squad, replacing Patrick Vieira.

At the time, Davies admitted a ‘strong bond’ with Vieira, admitting he had learned a lot from the man who was a menace against Tottenham in his Arsenal days.

Davies chose to leave City in 2019 to follow Vincent Kompany to Anderlecht.

That situation was very strange; Kompany quickly backed away from managerial duties, leaving Davies to take charge, only for his poor form to lead to him being demoted to assistant manager again.

Davies left Anderlecht in 2020 and is now set for a coaching return with Tottenham in what appears to be a strong move for Spurs.
