Roberto Carlos has raved about Lucas Paqueta in The Chronicle amid interest from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.

The Chronicle have reported that Arsenal and Newcastle are interested in signing Paqueta from Lyon in the summer transfer window.

The Times reported last month that the Gunners and the Magpies are keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old Brazil international.

The report claimed that Lyon are looking for £50 million to sell the former AC Milan midfielder.

Real Madrid and Brazil legend Roberto Carlos is a big fan of Paqueta, and believes that he would be a success in England.

Carlos told ChronicleLive about Paqueta: “Normally a player that is playing in the Brazil national team is linked with many clubs. He has great potential and England could be a great step for his career.”

Arsenal or Newcastle United for Lucas Paqueta?

In our view, Newcastle United have an advantage over Arsenal in the race for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

As reported by The Chronicle, the Lyon star is close friends with Bruno Guimaraes, who moved to Newcastle from the French club in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old also visited Tyneside a couple of times last season.

Now, of course, we know that Arsenal are a big club and a global brand, and they will also play in the Europa League next season.

However, Newcastle are embarking on a brand new adventure, and Paqueta could be tempted to move to St. James’ Park and play alongside his friend and Brazil international teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
