David Prutton has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that if Manchester City table a £60m bid, then Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is “gone”. He thinks a move to work under Pep Guardiola “makes sense”.
Phillips, 26, continues to be linked with a move to Manchester City – as Guardiola eyes a replacement for Fernandinho. The Brazilian has finally left Manchester City, the 37-year-old departing after nine years at The Etihad.
Reports say City are to table a £60million offer for the 22-time England international, while interest from Liverpool remains – according to the Sunday Mirror (5/6; page 73). Phillips has a contract until 2024.

Speaking in his YEP column, ex-Leeds midfielder Prutton says if Leeds receive a bid of £60million from City for Phillips – then he will go. He thinks a move to the Premier League champions makes sense.
“There are continued reports that Manchester City are going to come in with a big bid for Phillips and suggestions of a £60m bid. If they come in with a £60m bid then he’s gone,” Prutton wrote.
“He could be part of a dynastic kind of group of players that could do something really special at Manchester City. I could definitely see City coming in for Kalvin. If you were Kalvin, then what a move in every single sense.”
Prutton: Phillips ‘is gone’ if Manchester City table £60m bid
It is hard to argue with that. Phillips is a top player but an offer of £60million will be incredibly hard for Leeds to turn down. A move to the Premier League champions will obviously appeal for the England midfielder.
If it was the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham or Manchester United, then you would argue that Phillips would rather remain with his boyhood club. But either Liverpool or Manchester City will certainly tempt Phillips.
More money in the pocket and the chance to improve under Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp – and of course, trophies. It is a no-brainer for Phillips and for Leeds, with £60million in the pocket, they can really improve their side.
