Reports from Football Scotland on Friday night claimed that Celtic close to landing Bernabei.
Celtic have been looking at Bernabei for a while now and are seemingly closing in on a deal.
Bernabei, 21, has played 84 times for Lanus and boasts a strong attacking record with four goals and eight assists.
The Argentinian stands at just 5ft 5in tall but is known for his attacking ability, with Argentinian analyst Morena Beltran even likening Bernabei to Real Madrid hero Marcelo after a particularly impressive display against Ecuadorian side Barcelona SC in April.
That’s hugely exciting for Celtic fans and Lanus have now offered comments about Bernabei’s situation.
Lanus took on Defensa y Justicia on Friday night and Bernabei was not involved; not even on the bench.
La Union de Lanus report that Bernabei wasn’t even in Argentina at the time and would be returning later this weekend.
The reason given was that Bernabei was carrying out personal business in Europe.
That will leave some wondering if Bernabei was in Europe to discuss a potential move to Celtic.
Such an explanation does make sense, especially given that Football Scotland’s report broke just hours before Lanus kicked off.
Bernabei is now a now to keep a close eye on in Celtic’s chase for a left back, overtaking compatriot Francisco Ortega from Velez Sarsfield.
