According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Ilya Zabarnyi as they look to bolster their defence.
The 19-year-old is a left-sided centre-back who would act as an alternative to Alessandro Bastoni after Tottenham seemingly missed out on the Italian.
Spurs fans would be forgiven for not knowing much about Zabarnyi. After all, he played in the Ukrainian league, but by all accounts, he’s got what it takes to be a real gem in the Premier League.
At the age of just 19, he has 19 international caps for his country. In comparison, Jude Bellingham – another highly rated teenager, only has 14.
Zabarnyi has very quickly established himself as one of the premier defenders in Ukraine, and now, he could be headed to the Premier League with Spurs.
Standing at 6ft 3, Zabarnyi is a physically imposing defender, and he’s played a key part in the Dinamo Kyiv team that won the double last season.
Of course, there is a real element of risk when it comes to signing a teenager from an obscure league, but as the likes of Josko Gvardiol have shown in recent years, there’s some real talent to be plucked from eastern Europe.
Tottenham need someone to come in and make an instant impact, and if Zabarnyi can do that at the age of 19, he could quickly catapult himself to superstardom under Antonio Conte.
Tottenham could be on to a winner here.
