Back in June 2021, it was said that Arsenal were interested in signing Jonjoe Kenny from Premier League rivals Everton.

Mikel Arteta was looking to add depth to his right-back department, although a move failed to materialise.

Now, the 25-year-old has made a decision which could be of interest to the Gunners.

What’s the story?

Well, it was announced earlier today that Kenny would be leaving Goodison Park at the end of the month, when his contract expires.

Everton offered him a fresh deal, although the Liverpool-born defender rejected the contract as he looks for pastures new – he has been with the Toffees since 2006.

According to The Athletic, another Premier League club have already offered Kenny a contract, while he also has two clubs in Germany chasing his signature.

Under both Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard, he made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees last season.

However, that clearly wasn’t enough for Kenny, as the right-back has decided to leave Everton in search of regular first-team football, according to The Athletic.

Arsenal won’t sign Jonjoe Kenny

In our view, Arsenal are not the Premier League club keen to sign Kenny, despite their interest in 2021.

Arteta has brought Takehiro Tomiyasu to the Emirates Stadium since first signalling an admiration for Kenny, so the Spaniard now has the Japan international and Cedric Soares for the right-back department.

Therefore, we can’t see Arsenal making a move to bring a third right-back to north London, unless one of the aforementioned duo leaves this summer.

Kenny is also able to play at left-back, which may interest Arteta given the struggles of Nuno Tavares, although interest in Bologna gem Aaron Hickey suggests the Gunners already have a solution in mind.

Nevertheless, be sure to keep an eye on Kenny, as nobody knows where he’ll end up.
