Martin Terrier ‘wants to stay’ at Rennes amid reported interest from Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, executive president Olivier Cloarec tells TVR

Of course, the former Lyon youngster would not be the first player to have his head turned by a footballing powerhouse from the other side of the Channel tunnel.

Cloarec may be convinced that Terrier will turn his nose up at any offers that come his way during the summer transfer window but, if Liverpool or Tottenham firm up their interest, the Rennes chief may discover that his confidence is badly misplaced.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool see Terrier as a potential successor for the wantaway Sadio Mane at Anfield. Like Senegal’s all-time record goalscorer, the 25-year-old is a versatile, hard-working, jet-heeled forward who wreaks havoc when drifting in from the left-hand side.

He scored 21 goals during a career best 2021/22 campaign.

FootMercato claim that Spurs have made a ‘proposal’ of their own. This comes amid doubts about the futures of both Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura in North London.

Could Martin Terrier emulate Sadio Mane’s Liverpool impact?

“Today, there is not even a Martin Terrier situation. He wants to stay at Stade Rennais and we are very happy with him,” says a confident Cloarec. “

“We want to keep him, so there is no subject (to discuss).”

Terrier, formerly a target for Everton, came within touching distance of a first ever international call-up recently, only to fall just outside of Didier Deschamps’ chosen crop for June’s UEFA Nations League fixtures.

It goes without saying that a summer switch to Liverpool or Tottenham would do his France prospects no harm at all. Particularly with a World Cup on the horizon. Even if first-team football would be much harder to come by under Jurgen Klopp or Antonio Conte.

With Mane looking to push through a move to Bayern Munich, Liverpool have also been linked with Villarreal’s Arnaut Danjuma, Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic and Leeds United’s Raphinha.
