Newcastle United want Yann Sommer as they turn their attention to the Borussia Monchengladbach stopper having backed away from Dean Henderson.
Newcastle have secured Matt Targett on a permanent basis after an impressive loan spell from Aston Villa.
The Magpies will be chasing plenty of other signings to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad and there is a new name in the goalkeeping mix.
Dean Henderson has been linked with Newcastle for some time now and have allegedly held talks with his agent.
However, it now looks like the Magpies are looking elsewhere now with a Bundesliga stopper on the radar.
Newcastle United want Yann Sommer
TalkSPORT report that Newcastle are now turning to Sommer having backed away from Henderson.
It’s stated that Newcastle are focused on signing a goalkeeper how is adept with the ball at his feet.
That has taken them to Sommer, believing that he is the perfect goalkeeper to play in Eddie Howe’s style.
Sommer, 33, is allegedly reluctant to sign a new contract at Borussia Monchengladbach and he could be sold.
Sommer’s current deal ends in 2023 and Gladbach may decide to cash in before he leaves for absolutely nothing.

The Swiss stopper is an international teammate of Fabian Schar and joining forces at Newcastle could be hugely appealing having also played for Basel together.
Sommer enjoyed a superb season for Gladbach and he has received some huge praise in the past.
Premier League legend Kasper Schmeichel has been quoted as saying that Sommer is ‘one of the most underrated goalkeepers in Europe’.
Schmeichel has marvelled at how Sommer can play with the ball at his feet, believing few goalkeepers around can match him for that.
That’s a huge compliment from Schmeichel and Newcastle may soon be able to benefit from his ball-playing abilities if they make a summer move.
