According to RMC Sport, Alexandre Lacazette is currently undergoing his Lyon medical ahead of a return to his former club.
The French striker’s Arsenal contract is coming to an end, and after months of speculation, he’s now finally set to return to Ligue 1.
Everything seems to be done and dusted with this one. The medical is underway, and according to RMC, the French outfit have scheduled a press conference at 9AM on Thursday to announce the return of Lacazette.
Lacazette was a star for Lyon before moving to Arsenal. He netted no fewer than 100 league goals for the club, while he managed to tally up 28 goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances during his final season with the club.
Unfortunately, Lacazette couldn’t quite carry that form over to the Premier League. He leaves Arsenal having never hit 20 goals in a season, and after arriving for a then club-record fee, he’s departing on a free transfer.
A return to France should suit Lacazette to a tee. The slower style of play will suit him in his advancing years, and who knows? If he can rediscover his Ligue 1 form, he may be in with a shout of making the France World Cup squad for Qatar – although, admittedly, that’s very unlikely.
Lacazette’s departure leaves Arsenal with just one senior striker in their squad – Eddie Nketiah, and with his contract set to expire, the Gunners could soon be without a recognised number nine.
However, Nketiah is expected to sign a new deal, and with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Victor Osimhen linked, it may not be long before Lacazette is replaced.
