Wolves have joined Premier League rivals Fulham in the race for Al-Musrati and want his Braga team-mate David Carmo too, according to Record and O Jogo.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ track record, when it comes to signing players from the Portuguese top-flight, is about as mixed as Jake Gyllenhaal’s filmography.

If Ruben Neves was their Donnie Darko, a masterpiece that will leave a legacy for generations to come, then Fabio Silva is Prince of Persia; An expensive flop who failed to live up to an eye-watering price-tag, that undoubted potential going unfulfilled.

So, after a rather inconsistent spell in the transfer market, a somewhat disillusioned Molineux fanbase will not be getting too carried away amid reports linking them with two players who plied their trade under Carlos Carvalhal in 2021/22.

Wolves want Braga duo David Carmo and Al-Musrati

Newly-promoted Fulham have held talks with the £13 million-rated midfield man-mountain Al-Musrati. The 6ft 4ins Libya international is also on Wolves’ radar.

Given his size and his style, one suspects that Al-Musrati may be an alternative to Wolves’ number one midfield target, Joao Palhinha of Sporting Lisbon. The Black Country club are closing in on a bargain £20 million deal for Palhinha, and that should leave the door wide open for Fulham.

According to O Jogo, Wolves are also taking an interest in Al-Musrati’s Braga team-mate David Carmo. A left-leanin centre-half who thrives in a back-three, the one-time Real Madrid target is reportedly seen as the ideal successor for a departing Roman Saiss at Molineux.

Now, Carmo is a name that may be familiar to one group of Premier League supporters. Liverpool came within touching distance of sealing a deal for the highly-rated 22-year-old back in January 2021 after all.

“David Carmo had a foot and a half in Liverpool, but we ended up retaining him,” explains Braga president Antonio Salvador.

“On the day the market closed, I was looking for replacements,” adds former coach Carlos Carvajal.“Because I was convinced that David Carmo would go to Liverpool.”

Carmo has been likened to Spanish legend Sergio Ramos due to his ‘enormous physical capacity and tactical awareness’. Wolfsburg had a bid in the region of £10 million rejected out of hand over the weekend (A Bola).
