Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Liverpool target Ismaila Sarr from Watford in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has told GiveMeSport that Newcastle see Sarr as “a game-changer” and an upgrade on fellow winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
Corriere Dello Sport reported in March that Liverpool are competing with AC Milan for the 24-year-old Senegal international winger, who earns £63,000 per week as salary (Spotrac).
The Daily Mail reported on May 31 that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Sarr as a potential replacement for Sadio Mane, who has been linked with Bayern Munich.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “They (Crystal Palace) just won’t want to get into a price battle with Newcastle, who have got some interest in him.
“It’s not major interest right now, but they’re definitely looking at the situation, as they see him as a game-changer and somebody that’s probably a step-up from Saint-Maximin.”
Liverpool or Newcastle United for Ismaila Sarr?
In our view, Watford winger Ismaila Sarr would find Liverpool more appealing than Newcastle United.
Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world who regularly win trophies and play attacking football.
Sarr is still only 24, so there is every chance that he will improve and develop in the coming years.
We have seen the likes of Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson get better working under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff.
The chance to work for one of the best managers in the world and take his game to another level could appeal to Sarr as well.
