The future of Mohamed Salah threw up another big twist at Liverpool this week.

According to The Athletic, Salah, whose contract expires in 2023, could potentially join another Premier League outfit on a free next summer.

With no breakthrough in regards to signing an extension at Liverpool, the Egypt international, who has already revealed that he’ll be a Red next season, is in a precarious position – and so are the club.

But according to one journalist, the Merseyside club’s owners are not happy with this development.

Graeme Bailey has written on Anfield Watch that Liverpool’s FSG view the threat of Salah joining another English club as a ‘clear tactic’ from both the player and his representatives to get their own way, with the Reds’ hierarchy not responding well.

FSG clearly view this as a pressure play by the 29-year-old and his people to get the reported £400,000-a-week contract they’re reportedly looking for.

However, Bailey added that Liverpool have no intention of altering their wage structure to make Salah earn double what Virgil van Dijk – who is earning around £200,000 per week with the Premier League runners-up – is taking home.

Mohamed Salah future

According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, the player doesn’t want to stay in England though.

Delaney reported today that the Liverpool star would prefer to join Real Madrid if he cannot agree a new contract at Anfield, with the Spanish outfit defeating Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Champions League final last week.

Even that might annoy Fenway Sports Group, but it’s certainly an improvement on him potentially joining another Premier League team.
