Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on Joao Palhinha as the Sporting midfielder prepares for a move to England this summer.
Wolves looked like a real threat for the top six at one point but their season tailed off badly.
Just three wins in the last 14 games of the Premier League season – and nine defeats in that run – meant Wolves finished 10th.
There is still plenty to be encouraged by under Bruno Lage though and Wolves will need to back him this summer.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on Joao Palhinha
As is always the case, Wolves continue to be linked with Portuguese players.
The manager is Portuguese, Portuguese talents like Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Pedro Neto have thrived at Molineux and Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes has a certain level of influence at Wolves.
It’s therefore no great surprise that Sporting midfielder Palhinha is being strongly linked.
Palhinha has been touted to Wolves for a long time now and new reports claim that a deal is close.
The Sun claim that Palhinha has agreed to join Wolves in a £20million deal.
It’s claimed that Palhinha was hoping to join Manchester United but their interest hasn’t materialised, so he will pick Wolves.
New agent Mendes is leading the talks and Palhinha will allegedly make the move to Wolverhampton very soon.
Reports in Portugal last month suggested that Tottenham would be making their first bid for Palhinha before the end of May.
That hasn’t materialised either and the giant midfielder will now seemingly join Wolves instead.
Palhinha, 26, stands at around 6ft 3in tall and won the Portuguese league title with Sporting back in 2021.
It now seems that the midfield anchor man is ready to move on and join the Portuguese contingent at Wolves as Tottenham plot moves elsewhere.
