West Ham United want Nathan Ake – and Manchester City have allegedly told the defender that he can leave the club this summer.

The Hammers appear to be chasing a new defender this summer and who can blame them?

Issa Diop’s form has been concerning and Angelo Ogbonna is coming off a major injury at the age of 34.

That means West Ham absolutely need a new centre back and David Moyes appears to be prioritising a left-footed player.

Rennes star Nayef Aguerd is a top target and Moyes allegedly hopes to have him on board by the end of the week.

West Ham United want Nathan Ake

Another name in the mix for that role has been Manchester City defender Nathan Ake.

Eurosport reported in January that Ake was interested in a move to West Ham should they make a push to sign him.

The rumours re-emerged in April as The Times claimed that Ake was back on West Ham’s radar for a summer transfer.

The Times have now covered new claims about Ake’s future, this time stating that Manchester City have told him that he can leave.

It’s stated that Ake is a popular member of the City squad but that Pep Guardiola understands he may want more first-team action.

Ake will now be allowed to go should an acceptable bid come in and you have to figure that West Ham will be interested again.

The problem for West Ham may come with the fee required to sign Ake.

City paid an eye-watering £41million to sign Ake from Bournemouth back in the summer of 2020.

City would likely expect their money back on the Dutch defender despite his lack of game time at the Etihad Stadium.

The 27-year-old started just 10 Premier League games this past season and most of those came out of position at left back.

With the World Cup on the horizon, Ake will want regular starts to guarantee his trip to Qatar and West Ham may give him a chance to do just that.
