Heung-min Son has been speaking to TV Chosun about life at Tottenham, after the 2021/22 Premier League season came to a dramatic end.
What’s the story?
Well, the Tottenham No.7 discussed how it felt to win the Golden Boot, but also spoke about beating Arsenal to Champions League qualification.
Son said: “We talked about this a lot, but before Conte came, I didn’t even think that we could compete in the Champions League. But when the coach came, he held on to the players and filled in the gaps, and I think it was really good to be able to go to the Champions League.”
Now, it’s interesting to hear the 29-year-old admit he didn’t think Champions League qualification was possible before Conte arrived, as it gives us a good insight into the squad’s morale following Nuno Espirito Santo’s short tenure.
Clearly, some Tottenham players had already given up before the Italian arrived in N17, although he managed to pick them up impressively despite some rocky moments along the way.
Nuno left Spurs eighth in the Premier League, and after a summer of little investment in the playing staff, things looked bleak.
However, the arrivals of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur in January gave Tottenham a massive boost going into the second half of the campaign, and in truth, they were arguably the difference between Europa League and Champions League football.
Heung-min Son can fire Tottenham to new heights under Antonio Conte

In our view, next season could be a special one for Tottenham.
Towards the end of the season, after Conte had finally drilled his ethos into the players, Spurs were playing some fantastic football, so imagine what can be achieved with a full pre-season under the intense Italian.
The same goes for Son, who won his first Premier League Golden Boot largely thanks to Conte.

Impressively, the South Korea international scored 20 goals in just 32 games under Conte, while also providing eight assists, which is a ridiculous return.
If Tottenham keep their best players, and strengthen a few problematic areas, we’re confident they can win at least one piece of silverware next season – only time will tell…
