Chris Sutton has said on the Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 Live (8:42pm, May 30, 2022) that he does not think that Luis Suarez will move to Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

Villa manager Gerrard played with Uruguayan striker Suarez at Liverpool.

The former Barcelona striker is leaving Atletico Madrid this summer and will become a free agent.

The 35-year-old has been linked with a move to Villa in the summer transfer window.

90min reported earlier this month that Villa manager Gerrard wants to bring Suarez – who has been earning £263,000 per week (SalarySport) at Atletico – to Villa Park on a free transfer this summer.

Chris Sutton on Luis Suarez to Aston Villa rumour

Sutton said about Suarez to Villa rumour on the Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 Live (8:42pm, May 30, 2022): “Come on. That can’t happen. It just can’t happen. I don’t see it, I really don’t see it.”

The former Villa striker added: “I just do not see that one. I don’t think it’s one of those that Villa fans will be excited about the signing.

“They want to see the team kick on next season. He is not in the shape that he once was. He is 35.”

Good signing?

In our view, Luis Suarez would be a good signing for Aston Villa on a short-term deal if he takes a pay-cut.

Ashley Young returned to Villa last summer, and he is 36 now.

Gerrard managed the former Manchester United star well, and he could do the same with Suarez next season.

Yes, Suarez is 35 now, but Gerrard knows his former Liverpool teammate inside out and is aware of what he is and is not capable of.

The striker will also be aware of the intensity and pace in the Premier League.

Suarez is far from finished.

The striker score 21 goals in La Liga for Atletico in 2020-21 and scored 11 goals in 20 La Liga starts for Atletico this past season.
