Alan Shearer has stated that ‘you will see more’ of players running down their contracts, as he reacted to the rumours surrounding Liverpool’s Sadio Mane after the Champions League final in Paris.

The Liverpool winger has 12 months remaining on his contract at Anfield and he could be heading for the exit door this summer.

There are suggestions that Bayern Munich are keen to add the 30-year-old to their ranks this summer.

Before the Champions League final, Mane shared that he will reveal after that game what he will do with his future on Merseyside.

Shearer was asked on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport if there is a bit of a ‘pantomime’ feel to players, such as Mane, revealing what they will do with their futures, as he issued this response.

“Well, that’s a social media thing,” said Shearer. “The importance of what the player’s role is, and you will probably see more of it because of the finances in the game and the salaries that are being paid.

“More and more players will look to run their contracts down and come to the end of it, so with 12 months to go, certainly from a lot of the big players, then you are going to see that.”

LIVERPOOL MIGHT HAVE TO BITE THE BULLET WITH MANE

Of course, everyone associated with Liverpool would want Mane to stay and sign a new contract – the same applies to Mo Salah.

But, at the end of the day, Liverpool either, get a transfer fee for Mane this summer, he signs a new deal or leaves for nothing next summer.

In truth, the two most likely scenarios are him getting sold now or leaving for next to nothing.

And, with the genius ways Liverpool run their transfer department, this is where they probably bite the bullet, sell their star winger and look to invest it elsewhere.
