Liverpool are keen on Konrad Laimer – and he has now admitted that his future may lie away from RB Leipzig heading into next season.

The Reds fell short in their attempts to win the Premier League title and the Champions League in a frustrating end to the season.

Finishing one point behind Manchester City and losing 1-0 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final is no great shame.

Liverpool need to go again next season and Jurgen Klopp will need to bring in some new faces just to give the Reds another lift.

Midfield may be an area of concerns for Liverpool and there have been links to RB Leipzig star Laimer.

Liverpool are keen on Konrad Laimer

Kicker reported early in May that Liverpool and Tottenham are both in the race to sign Laimer.

Laimer is out of contract in 2023 and there is a real chance that Leipzig sell the midfielder this summer before he walks away.

Laimer is a running machine in midfield and can also cover at right back, so the 25-year-old may well suit Jurgen Klopp.

Add in that he is a Red Bull player – just like Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Ibrahima Konate were – and you can see that Laimer would make sense for Liverpool.

Laimer has now opened up about his future and it sounds like he is expecting a summer move.

The Austrian international has told Sky Sports that there is now a strong possibility that he won’t be a Leipzig player next season.

Laimer wants to take his time and make the right decision but is seemingly opening the door for a summer move.

“It is quite possible that I will no longer play in Leipzig next season,” said Laimer. “It’s a phase where you think about your future. I’m concentrating on the national team now. After that I will sit down and talk to my closest and see what the best possible next step is for me,” he added.

What’s interesting about Laimer is that he has admitted that he grew up idolising Steven Gerrard during his Liverpool days.

With that in mind, Laimer would surely jump at the chance to play for Liverpool if they come calling, with the prospect of following in Gerrard’s footsteps no doubt appealing.
