Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to reveal that Real Madrid are now preparing an opening bid for Wolves and Southampton target Gabriel Slonina.

What’s the story?

Well, both Bruno Lage and Ralph Hasenhuttl are keen to bring the 18-year-old to the Premier League, although there’s now a big problem.

Real Madrid – fresh from winning their 14th major European title – are now planning a bid for Slonina, who was born in 2004.

Chicago Fire are expecting an offer from Los Blancos, and are waiting for the bid to arrive.

You can see what Romano wrote on Twitter in full below.

It comes after Romano also claimed that Chelsea were in advanced talks to sign Slonina in a deal worth £6m, although that move collapsed after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government.

So far this season, the teenager has made 13 appearances in Major League Soccer, conceding 20 goals while keeping five clean sheets.

Interestingly, Slonina has been likened to Gianluigi Buffon, and has also been described as the most promising goalkeeper in MLS history.

Wolves & Southampton will surely lose out to Real Madrid

In our view, we’d be very surprised if Slonina now ends up at Molineux or St Mary’s, after Real Madrid joined the race.

Carlo Ancelotti seems intent on hoovering up Europe’s brightest talents, such as Eduardo Camavinga, who arrived from Rennes in 2021.

Real Madrid are now trying to sign another gem in Aurelien Tchouameni, and we can’t envisage a scenario in which Slonina turns down a move to the Santiago Bernabeu – the pinnacle of European football.

Having said that, the Illinois-born glovesman may prefer regular first-team football, which he probably won’t get with Thibaut Courtois ahead of him.

Southampton seem to have a space available, with Fraser Forster set to join Tottenham, while Wolves already have a solid No.1 in Jose Sa.

Keep an eye on this situation, as Real Madrid should soon send a bid in the direction of Chicago Fire.
