Tottenham want Alessandro Bastoni – and even think that he can become the long-term heir to Jan Vertonghen in North London.
Tottenham are set to secure a couple of signings to kickstart what should be a busy summer under Antonio Conte.
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster and wide man Ivan Perisic are both set to sign for Tottenham on free transfers.
That’s a strong start to the window for Tottenham, with Conte seemingly keen on adding experienced characters.
There should be youth to come as well though and Conte wants to land one of Perisic’s Inter Milan teammates in Alessandro Bastoni.
Tottenham want Alessandro Bastoni
Tottenham are in the market for another centre back this summer and a left-sided player makes sense.
Ben Davies has fared well as a left-sided centre back under Conte but a more natural option may be wanted there.
Football London now report that Tottenham have made Inter Milan star Bastoni their top target for that role.
The belief inside Tottenham is that Bastoni can be the long-term heir to Jan Vertonghen.
Vertonghen was a fan favourite at Tottenham and an outstanding left-sided defender.
Tottenham haven’t really managed to replace Vertonghen and the belief is that Bastoni can be that player.

A £51million fee is mentioned but it now sounds like Tottenham will struggle to land the Italian.
The London Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick reports that Bastoni is reluctant to leave Inter and, whilst the deal isn’t completely over, Tottenham face a job convincing him to sign.
Bastoni, 23, joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017 and has now become a star at the San Siro.
Trained as a full back but now thriving as a 6ft 3in centre back, Bastoni is exactly what Tottenham want on their left side.
Tottenham may have hoped that Bastoni’s history with Conte at inter would help them secure a deal, but it looks like a difficult deal.
