Vincent Kompany wants KV Oostende striker Makhtar Gueye at Burnley with the Championship club willing to spend around £4 million, as reported by Het Nieuwsblad.
Following Anderlecht’s 3-0 Jupiler League victory over Oostende in March, Kompany was spotted walking off the Lotto Park turf with his arm around Gueye.
It’s never advisable to read too much into these sort of situations of course. But, with reports suggesting that the striker could be Kompany’s first signing at Turf Moor, it’s tempting to wonder just what they were discussing on that afternoon in Anderlecht a couple of months ago.
According to Het Niuewsblad, Sean Dyche’s so-called successor has already set his sights on a reliable centre-forward as he prepares to take over at recently-relegated Burnley.
Kompany is reportedly ‘convinced’ that Gueye will be a big success in Lancashire, his 6ft 3ins frame making the Senegalese powerhouse a perfect fit for a team who tend to create the majority of their chances from set-pieces and crosses.
Burnley want Makhtar Gueye as they prepare Vincent Kompany arrival
Burnley have reportedly made contact with Oostende already, making it clear that they are happy to pay up for Gueye.
KVO may be willing to accept a cut-price fee in the region of £4 million. Gueye’s market value has fallen by around 50 per cent following a difficult run of form since the turn of the year.
Gueye scored 12 goals in 2021/22, but only one after Christmas.

Belgian publication DH Net back up these claims. What’s more, Gueye has scored three times in two seasons against Kompany’s Anderlecht side.
Burnley’s interest in the sky-scraping centre-forward may raise questions regarding the future of Wout Weghorst at Turf Moor.

A similarly old-school number nine, Weghorst will know that Championship football could scupper his hopes of representing the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
According to The Sun, Kompany is also hoping to reunite with former Anderlecht loanee Taylor Harwood-Bellis at Burnley. The Celtic target is contracted to Manchester City, the club Kompany captained to multiple Premier League titles.
