Giovani lo Celso leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer appears to be a foregone conclusion.
The Argentina international quit Spurs in January to join Villarreal on a half-season loan.
And considering he helped Unai Emery’s side to a Champions League semi-final, well you wouldn’t begrudge the player if he fancied a permanent transfer to Spain.
Estadio Deportivo reported earlier in May that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte had no long-term plan for him in North London in the belief that he’s too weak and fragile for the rough and tumble of English football.
Earlier today, The Athletic reiterated the Italian manager’s desire to offload the South American midfielder.
And Fabrizio Romano has tweeted this afternoon that a permanent transfer is happening, revealing on Twitter that the Lilywhites want around £17 million to sell him this summer.
With Tottenham spending £27 million on the player under Jose Mourinho, that’ll give the Londoners a loss of around £10 million.
It’s a shame about Lo Celso because he did, at times, look a very capable footballer.
But honestly, Conte is right in believing that he isn’t phsyically strong and robust enough fitness-wise to survive in the Premier League.
He is much more suited to Spanish football and thankfully for all parties, it does seem very probable that a permanent exit will materialise.
Lo Celso leaving Tottenham Hotspur seems only a matter of time.
