Premier League giants Liverpool and Leeds United are battling for Calvin Ramsay but former Aberdeen ace Niall McGinn insists the youngster will have to be ‘patient’ south of the border, speaking to the Daily Record.
Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Joe Gomez, Divock Origi and Joel Matip. Five players who all started the recent FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea on the substitute’s bench.
And you could certainly make an argument that Kostas Tsimikas, scorer of the winning penalty at Wembley, would start for every other club in the Premier League.
Clearly, strength in depth is not an issue as far as Liverpool are concerned.
And should 18-year-old Ramsay arrive in a deal reportedly worth £6 million – per the Daily Record – the Scottish Football Writer’s Young Player of the Year will find himself competing for a place with perhaps the greatest right-back of his generation; The irrepressible Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Leeds and Liverpool want Aberdeen’s Calvin Ramsay
“At the end of the day, he is going there to get better and learn from the best. But it is also important if you go to these big clubs that you are patient,” says McGinn, pointing out that another exciting teenage defender, Connor Bradley, is finding first-team opportunities hard to come by at Anfield.
“He can’t think he will go there and play every week for the likes of Liverpool. I am sure there are four, five young lads pushing in the same direction.
“It will be tough for Calvin if he moves on. But you want to wish him all the best if he does.
“The thing for him now is just gaining as much experience as he possibly can and he’s done that over the course of the season with European games and playing in the Premiership.”

Jurgen Klopp is a fan
According to The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp has given Ramsay’s potential arrival his seal of approval. Nothing is done and dusted just yet, however, and Leeds United will still be hoping that they can hi-jack a deal for a man who set up nine goals in his breakthrough season at Pittodrie.

“The sky’s the limit. Calvin has all the ability in the world,” McGinn adds. As long as he is willing to learn and listen to team-mates – and the manager, obviously – then I am sure he will have no issues,” says McGinn
“If you go on to a big team like Liverpool, Leeds or whatever, you are going to be working with good managers and coaches on a full-time basis. So it is important for him to just take everything in his stride and not get excited too soon.”
