The Mirror claim Aston Villa and West Ham are on red alert over a potential move for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Reds are willing to offload the England international for just £10million.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, 28, has seemingly put his injury demons behind him this season and remained fit for the entire campaign. Despite that, the midfielder has only been handed nine Premier League starts for the Reds.
- Newcastle and Tottenham want Leeds star, but Elland Road is his best move
- Robin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22
He has failed to complete 90 minutes once in England’s top tier, and his £120,000-a-week (Spotrac) deal is due to end in the summer of 2023. Liverpool are now ready to cash in, rather than lose him on a free.
That has put Villa and West Ham on red alert, according to the Mirror. The Reds want just £10million, which means they will make a £25million loss. Steven Gerrard is a keen admirer, while Moyes wants more depth.
Villa and West Ham on red alert for £10m bargain Oxlade-Chamberlain
While he has had his injury issues, Oxlade-Chamberlain is fit and will be keen to get playing on a more-regular basis. He is likely to be on the bench for the Champions League final, but even more likely to be an unused sub.
£10million is a small fee. It means that despite his nightmare injury history, he will be a smaller risk for either Villa or West Ham. At his best, he is easily good enough to shine for either club. West Ham are in Europe, too.
If he can get regular game time, he can remind all that he is a “quality player” – something Roy Keane said about the ex-Arsenal star this season.
