Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin admits he would be open to another spell at Russian giants CSKA Moscow with his Premier League future uncertain, speaking to Championat.
The Ivorian’s time in the RPL might have been somewhat short-lived – he only joined four months ago – but life in the capital obviously treat Gbamin rather well.
A man who barely kicked a ball in anger during three injury-hit seasons at Goodison Park put those fitness issues behind him in Russia, starting 11 out of a possible 12 games, producing two goals and two assists.
And, with Gbamin’s Everton future shrouded in mystery, the former Mainz ace is refusing to rule out a return to the VEB Arena. In fact, he sounds positively intrigued about the idea.
“Thanks to CSKA for giving me the opportunity to demonstrate my talent and the opportunity to play football,” says Gbamin, bidding farewell to the supporters after scoring in the 4-0 final day thrashing of FC Rostov.
“The fans are just fantastic. I hope CSKA win many trophies in the future, and why not return to CSKA in the next two years?”
Does Jean-Philippe Gbamin have a future at Everton?
Gbamin will be missed, and not just by the fans who took him to their heart during an otherwise disappointing campaign that ended with CSKA in fifth place.
“My partnership with Gbamin? Not bad. There is speed, passing, vision, technique,” says CSKA youngster Maksim Mukhin. “It’s a pleasure to play with him.”

Gbamin is one of many players hoping for a fresh start under Frank Lampard in pre-season.
The £25 million midfielder’s all-action approach in the centre of the park could certainly serve Everton well. Gbamin’s energy, dribbling skills and ball-carrying ability arguably make him a better fit for Lampard’s preferred style of play than the powderpuff Andre Gomes and the out-of-favour Allan.

With two years left on his contract, however, Everton have a decision to make. Particularly if Roma renew their interest over the summer.
“Roma contacted me back in December. But now, there are no conversations with representatives of the Italian team,” says Bernard Collignon, the 26-year-old’s agent.
