According to Florian Plettenburg, Sadio Mane is now interested in leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich, after missing out on the Premier League title.

What’s the story?

Well, the Sky Germany journalist believes Bayern Munich could soon pull off a sensational signing, although Real Madrid are also interested.

It is said that both Julian Nagelsmann and Hasan Salihamidžić – Director of Football at Bayern Munich – want Mane at the Allianz Arena.

The Liverpool No.10 is entering the final 12 months of his contract, and according to Plettenburg, can see himself playing in the Bundesliga.

Interestingly, Barcelona also believe Mane would join them.

Sky Germany believe the next three to four weeks will be decisive in this transfer saga, and the transfer fee will probably be just under €50m (£42m).

Crucially, Plettenburg adds that there “is movement” in negotiations with both Mane and his representatives, so a deal seems to be progressing.

So far this season, the 30-year-old has scored 23 goals in 50 appearances for Liverpool, while also providing five assists.

Liverpool can’t lose Sadio Mane

In our view, Liverpool must place as much significance on renewing Salah’s contract as they are with Mohamed Salah, who also becomes a free agent in June 2023.

The Senegal international is one of Europe’s best forwards, and could even win the Ballon d’Or if Liverpool lift the Champions League on Saturday.

Mane has proven himself again this season following a quiet campaign last term, and has also shown Jürgen Klopp that he can thrive in a central role.

Now, that particularly interests us. A central role doesn’t require as much tracking back to support the full-back, so even when he loses his pace, Mane could succeed for Liverpool in that role.

By no means should Klopp’s first signing for Liverpool be allowed to leave Anfield.

Keep an eye on this saga, as Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid could have a big say in Mane’s future.
