Back in March, the Leeds supporters gave Tyrone Mings a torrid evening as Aston Villa recorded a 3-0 win at Elland Road in the Premier League.

It prompted Aston Villa’s official Twitter account to post a photo of the £20m man after the win, with an emoji blowing a kiss to those Leeds fans.

As far as we can see, nobody is really sure why the Leeds supporters booed Mings, although after last night, they owe him an apology.

What’s the story?

Well, the man booed by Leeds fans in March might just have kept their beloved club in the Premier League.

With 85 minutes gone, Aston Villa and Burnley seemed destined to play out a 1-1 draw at Villa Park, before Wout Weghorst was gifted a golden opportunity.

Connor Roberts squared the ball for the Dutchman to slot into an empty net, in a moment which surely had Leeds fans all over Yorkshire panicking.

However, Mings then came out of nowhere to block Weghorst’s goal-bound effort in superb style, and give Leeds fans a boost everywhere.

Had that strike gone in, and Burnley recorded a 2-1 win, then Leeds would’ve had to win against Brentford on Sunday, and hope the Clarets lost to Newcastle.

Aston Villa may have saved Leeds

Going into the final day, Leeds and Burnley are now tied on 35 points after last night’s results.

It means Leeds can afford to draw against Brentford if Newcastle beat Burnley, a luxury they wouldn’t have had without Mings.

Therefore, the Villans might just have saved Leeds.

Having said that, if Burnley beat the Magpies, then it’s surely all over for Leeds – unless they score 20 goals against the Bees.

As things stand, Leeds have a goal difference of -38, whereas Burnley have -18, which doesn’t make good reading for Jesse Marsch.

It’s still a very worrying time for Leeds fans, although the situation would look much scarier had Mings not denied Weghorst last night.
