John Barnes has warned ‘what’s the point of Steven Gerrard’ doing Liverpool a favour with Aston Villa in the Premier League title race if they don’t beat Wolves.

The Premier League title race is heading to the final day, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Wolves all under the spotlight.

To put it simply, if Man City see past Villa, then the Premier League title will be staying at the Etihad.

But, if the Midlands outfit can add a bit of spice into this title race, then Liverpool will be hoping they can do the unthinkable.

Whether Gerrard does or doesn’t do them a favour on Sunday, the Reds have to do their own job and that’s beating Bruno Lage’s Wolves.

That’s the message Anfield legend Barnes put forward regarding the title race, as he told Premier League Productions that he doesn’t believe in fairytales.

“Unfortunately, they have to play against Manchester City,” said Barnes. “And Unfortunately, Steven’s not playing.

“It could be written in the stars. But I don’t think we are just going to rely on that and then say ‘it’s defiantly going to happen’.

“Of course, we hope it’s going to happen. But Manchester City are still firm favourites.

“If we don’t beat Wolves, what’s the point of Steven Gerrard doing us a favour? So, we have to just concentrate on our job.”

LIVERPOOL FANS PRAYING FOR ASTON VILLA AND STEVEN GERRARD FAVOUR

Many Liverpool fans will be hoping and praying Gerrard does them a favour on the final day of the season.

Footballing scripts won’t be written in a better fashion if Villa do get a result at Man City and Liverpool go on to win the Premier League title.

But, at the end of the day, it’s pretty difficult stopping or getting anything from this current Man City side, especially on their own patch.

There might be an early scare on Sunday, but more than likely, the title is probably going to stay in Man City colours for another season.
