Jeunes Footeux claim Arsenal and Jose Mourinho’s Roma want to sign Bayer Leverkusen ace Piero Hincapie – joining Tottenham in the race. The young left-back is shining in Europe, after his move to Germany last summer.
Hincapie, 20, joined Leverkusen last August from Argentine side CA Talleres – his first foray into European football. Costing just £5m (Bolavip), he was seen as one for the future at the BayArena. He has exceeded expectation.
Indeed, the 16-time Ecuador international has played 33 times for Bayer this season. Not only has he established himself as a regular in the starting XI, but he has also scored twice – against Greuther Furth and Celtic.
His goal against Celtic saw him find the back of the net past Joe Hart in a 4-0 win. Spurs have been watching from afar, as have Arsenal – while Mourinho would like him at Roma. He has a contract at Bayer until 2026.
Arsenal and Mourinho join Tottenham in Hincapie race
Hincapie is one of the most-exciting left-sided options of his age in European football. A left-back, but one that can also play in the middle of the defence, or on the left of a back three. Ideal for Tottenham.
Mourinho has also used a back three at times and a move to Roma would be tempting. Roma need to beat Feyenoord to get Europa League football, in the Conference final. Arsenal are set to qualify, with a fifth-placed finish.
But Spurs might be the one that tempts Hincapie most. At this stage in his career, constant game time is not a concern. However, potential Champions League football will really tempt the Ecuadorian this summer.
