The Western cinema industry ground to a halt because of the coronavirus emerged and the Indian cinema industry was no different; however, some projects were affected significantly more than others.
Jersey was originally meant to premiere back in August 2020 because of the ongoing coronavirus, before future delays postponed the theatrical release until November 2021, then December 2021 and one final time for April 14th 2022.
The movie finally premiered in cinemas on April 22nd, 2022, to a solid reception from fans and critics alike, but sadly not every expectant fan was able to make it to their local theatre to enjoy Jersey on the big screen.

How was Jersey rated by cinemagoers?
As soon as Jersey premiered in theatres, the film immediately started hitting fans for six. Unfortunately, it didn’t bring enough fans to cinemas in order to truly make Jersey a success.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the movie made only Rs 27.84 Crore at the global box office, significantly less than the reported budget. Per Koimoi, “Despite being a well-made film, it didn’t find any takers right from the very first day and the situation only worsened further at the box office with every passing day.”
The response from critics and fans was decidedly mixed after that initial flop; with scores ranging from 6.7/10 on IMDB and 3.6/5 on The Times of India, to an average Tomatometer of just 50% and an average audience score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes – that’s quite a swing.
Koimoi gave Jersey 3.5/5, noting how the film was “A rare and almost-perfect blend of drama, (predicable-yet-interesting) game & everything else.”
The same score was seen on The Times of India critic’s breakdown, stating that “If you’re expecting nail-biting cricketing moments, you’re probably going to be a tad disappointed.” Again, a 3.5/5 rating was seen on Bollywood Hungama, dropping to just 2.5/5 on The Indian Express.
“An emotional end, even if it feels very last-minute, provides the essential drama that a movie like this needs. That, and the message that it’s never too late to make your dreams come true. Overall, though, Jersey comes off sincere but lacklustre.” – The Indian Express.

One of the most underrated parts of Jersey is the soundtrack, composed by Sachet-Paramapara with lyrics written by Shellee.
