Marc Crosas has urged Celtic to buy Frankfurt striker Rafael Santos Borre, after the Colombian proved decisive in his side’s Europa League final win over Rangers. He scored his side’s only goal, after 120 minutes.

Joe Aribo had given Rangers the lead just before the hour mark. A defensive mix-up allowing the Nigeria international – playing as a makeshift striker – to race through and score. But Borre scored an equaliser soon after.

While Rangers edged extra-time, the game went to penalties – even after Ryan Kent had a golden chance, which was saved by Kevin Trapp. Aaron Ramsey missed the only penalty, and Borre got the winning one.

Lashing an effort into the top corner, Frankfurt won the Europa League and after watching, ex-Celtic star Crosas was impressed. He took to Twitter to urge his old side to buy Borre – the man that downed Rangers.

Crosas urges Celtic to buy Borre: Would be a wonderful signing

One may fear, though, that after 20 goals involvements in his first season for Frankfurt – and boasting a contract until 2026 – Celtic may struggle. He would be a magnificent signing, but he is simply out of Celtic’s reach.

The Hoops have plenty up top anyway. Kyogo Furuhashi has been superb, though interrupted by injury. Giorgios Giakoumakis came into his own in the second half of the season, and Daizen Maeda has impressed.

Borre would be an improvement but the chances are, he would cost more than £20million. But he will always be looked at fondly by Celtic fans, after he stopped Rangers from winning the Europa League on Wednesday night.
